Tung Wah Academy of Music
Established in September 2013, Tung Wah Academy of Music is one of the of service centres operated by the Education Division of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs). The Academy’s core duty is to provide high quality instrumental and orchestral training in the participating schools’ own premises, and to coordinate the music trainings of all primary and secondary schools of TWGHs. Our team currently has over 60 instructors and serve up to 2,000 students through over 150 instrumental classes and 18 school orchestras/bands.
Since its establishment, the Academy strives to offer an exchange platform for students; to organize various types of activities; to broaden students’ horizon; and to enrich their musical experience. To introduce students to activities by world-class maestros, the Academy organized the Hong Kong International Percussion Festival in 2014. In 2016, at the invitation of Beijing International Education Exchange Centre of Beijing Municipal Education Commission, the Academy arranged a 77-member group to visit Beijing and the performance was well received. This year, the Academy assisted two primary schools in preparing their joint-school exchange tour to Fuji International Music Festival in Japan. The Academy also jointed hands with two primary schools in Taiwan to organize a summer camp for string instruments in order to provide TWGHs Joint Primary Schools String Orchestra with further trainings. In addition to benefiting students, the Academy also extends its service to the retired segment by having its instructor to conduct the E Major Ensemble, the first orchestra in Hong Kong formed exclusively by members aged over 50 or above, brining the enjoyment of music to people of all ages.
